A new 50,000 square foot facility consolidates four manufacturing plants.

Sun Chemical reinforced its commitment to customers in Montreal and the Province of Quebec with the opening of its new ink manufacturing plant in Laval, a $3.1 million (CAD) investment designed to provide stronger customer service, improve efficiency and reduce costs. The 50,000 square foot facility consolidates four manufacturing plants located in Ottawa, Quebec City and two buildings located in the Montreal suburbs of Boucherville and Anjou, into one brand new manufacturing plant that will service the needs of customers primarily located in Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City areas. Strategically located just off the highway in the north suburb of Montreal, the single location in Laval is better positioned for getting through Montreal’s traffic patterns and delivering product to customers across Quebec and Eastern Ontario. Additionally, consolidating the two plants in Montreal into one facility will make it easier for customers in the city find Sun Chemical. The move to Laval also allows Sun Chemical to consolidate truck loads for deliveries, expedite routes, reduce carbon emissions and save money on gas. The investment in Laval will help Sun Chemical meet many of its eco-efficiency goals by improving its carbon footprint and reducing expenses. “We are affirming our commitment to the Quebec and the Canadian market with this investment,” says Rod Staveley, president of Sun Chemical Canada. “Sun Chemical plans to be in this business for the long term and is providing the infrastructure needed to deliver best in class services to our valued customers. Our new facility reduces costs, improves productivity, and enables continuing high service levels for our customers.” The facility has ink dispensers on-site to use both for demonstrations and the manufacturing of spot color inks for customers. Other equipment at the plant include: three roll mills, several vertical post mixers, and other smaller mixers. A lab is located inside the building for quality control and color matching chemistries along with offices for the sales force. Currently under application to become a LEED-certified building, the Laval facility offers a variety of “green” benefits, including: a heat-recovery unit, the use of energy efficient lighting, waste-stream recycling, and commuter parking spaces to encourage carpooling and the use of electric or hybrid vehicles. Dedicated to the highest level of cleanliness, the new manufacturing plant features equipment upgrades that meet the stringent health and safety standards of the CSST (the province’s occupational health and safety organization). Sun Chemical will host an open house of the facility on Wednesday, June 27 and will offer tours and food for those that attend. Customers, local officials and the media are all welcome to attend. Those interested can RSVP with Wendy Fan at [email protected] or call at 905-595-3535. For more information about the Laval facility, visit: www.sunchemical.com/laval-canada. Sun Chemical Corporation is a subsidiary of Sun Chemical Group Coöperatief U.A., the Netherlands, and is headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey, U.S.A.
